

The Department of Microbiology and Botany of our Faculty of Science organised an online guest lecture on "Role of Microorganisms in Plants and Human Health". The session was delivered by Dr. Chayanika Putatunda, Associate Professor (Microbiology) at Om Sterling Global University, Haryana. He explained that the impact of microorganisms is not limited only to digestion, but it also affects our bones, kidneys, liver, lungs, heart, brain, and reproductive organs. It can lead to some serious diseases like depression, heart problems, diabetes, obesity, or cancer. For this, she informed the attendees about modern techniques like prebiotics, probiotics, synbiotics, and faecal microbiome transplantation as solutions. In the session, she also covered biotechnological applications of microbiology, the cleanliness of the Ganga River, the use of cyanobacteria, and indigenous remedies like the use of soil and turmeric. Organised by Dr. Faiz Baksh and Dr. Pradeep Kumar, the program was highly beneficial and informative.
